My dog should be an international socialite… Once again this year Delta Dawn rocked the ballroom of a fancy hotel! The occasion was another exciting Best Friends Brunch benefitting aniMeals on Wheels at Houston’s fabulous Hotel Zaza.
aniMeals on Wheels, a division of Interfaith Ministries Meals on Wheels program, was conceived after Interfaith administrators for the Meals on Wheels program questioned drivers about what they were learning on their routes. Seems recipients were not finishing their meals in order to save portions for their pets. The aniMeals program was created to provide pet food so that home-bound seniors would not feel compelled to share their limited food.
Delta Dawn walked the runway at Hotel Zaza in a one-of-a-kind design made especially for her.
This year’s brunch was hosted by Laura Max Rose and Ben Rose with co-chairs, the always fabulous sisters, Kristy Phillips and Wendy Phillips.
Again this year, one of the highlights of the event was a fashion show for dogs! Delta Dawn wore a custom designed sky blue silk cape with a blue feather trim—she was definitely channeling her inner Delta Burke. And to complete the ensemble I wore a matching scarf.
Pat Wild and her dog Willie were chosen for the top fashion prize that day. But Delta Dawn still considers herself the big winner. How often does a dog get to take over a luxury hotel in the swank Museum District?

But the real winner of the day was aniMeals. Best Friends Brunch coordinator Lily Young wrote, “This year’s event was a tremendous success and thanks to you, we raised over $112,000.”
“The day was filled with love for our best friends—the human and four-legged kind alike,” Lily continued. “The warmth and care for aniMeals on Wheels at the Brunch was both overwhelming and humbling.”

It was a glorious day in Texas and at the conclusion of the program we friends and supporters gathered in and around the hotel’s Monarch Bar for libations and conversation.
I love the pictures of Delta Dawn and me–such a great keepsake to remember this stellar event! And I am sorry that Mother did not get to see them. She would have adored them.
This, my friends, is one of the best fund raisers of the year; and one of the few where your dog is also invited! I encourage you all to put this on your calendar for 2017.
